Annual Conference: Mirror
Welcome to the Finnish Literary Research Society’s annual conference in Joensuu!
The Finnish Literary Research Society’s annual conference is Finland’s largest annual event in the field of literary studies, bringing together scholars and enthusiasts of literature and literary cultures across disciplinary boundaries. The 2025 event will take place in Joensuu from May 22 to May 23. The theme for the conference is ”Mirror.”
The theme ”mirror” invites reflection on the possibilities of self-examination and critique in literature and literary research. Both in literature and its study, perspectives that critically examine or reassess history, tradition, and the past have resurfaced. Should literary culture and literary studies look into the mirror, examining their own practices, truths, and traditions, or should research on literature focus more on perspectives that reflect and reconstruct the reality of literature?
What are literary mirrors, and how does literary research participate in their creation?
The theme allows for an interdisciplinary perspective on literature and literary cultures. Contributions are warmly welcomed from fields such as cultural studies, philology, history, gender studies, sociology, and other closely related disciplines.
The keynote speakers of this event are Timotheus Vermeulen (Oslo University) and Kati Launis (University of Eastern Finland).
The event is organized by the Society of Literary Scholars, the Department of Humanities at the University of Eastern Finland, and the literature department.
